My favourite film is Pink Panther mainly because it uses animation to keep my attention for some time. Normally, animation appeals to the the younger people in the target audience, but I must say that it appeals to all ages as it's quite mischievous and comical.
The use of animation in the beginning gave a sense of what the film was going to be about. The first thing I saw was an extreme close up of a very expensive pink diamond; this shows tits importance and the diamond will be a main thing in the film. Throughout the sequence pink was a main theme - one thing that made the plot very clear was that the Pink Panther went missing and a poster was placed on the wall. This made me remember the pink diamond in the beginning, that may be that is called the Pink Panther and it goes missing. Additionally, throughout the sequence a theme of Tom & Jerry was displayed with the Pink Panther and the police man giving the audience an insight as to what the film will be based around : Trouble. The non-diegetic sound played was jazz music; in my opinion I don't think it was effective as it made the sequence seem very long and boring. The music didn't correlate the theme of the film even though the genre was evident from the animation. It was almost like the music was used to distract the audience's engagement away as it was quite pointless. Having said that, I can argue that the music could've been used to soothe and ease the audience into the trouble and action caused into the film - so the music could be getting them ready. I gathered from this that it is important that the studio chooses the right music to convey the right expectations to an audience.
The credits were subtle and placed at the right hand side of the screen. The credits weren't really paid enough attention to as my attention was on the animation to understand the plot. As an improvement to movies using animation they should probably introduce credits in a certain way where they get enough attention like "Honey, I shrunk the Kids (film)". So in essence, the credits in the play was quite irrelevant as it wasn't too noticeable unless you took your eyes off the animation for a bit.
In conclusion, despite all my criticisms it is still my favourite film because everything in the title sequence reflected in the film so the animation was useful for informing the audience on what the plot is.
Here is the Pink Panther (2006) movie starring Steve Martin and the legendary Beyonce. Enjoy!
