Changes made to the title sequence

General explanation of the decision made
  1. After deep analysis and consideration of the current rough cut , the feedback that we received from our class was evident that this title sequence needed a lot of work. Additionally, it was unclear what the main theme of the title sequence was, so we decided to just restart. While in this deep thought, I watched similar youth drama films watching their openings and analysed the different shots they used.
  2. The film openings I looked at was Top Boy, My Brother the Devil and Fish Tank. The similarities they had were they all established the locations and a character before the character makes a journey to somewhere. They also vary between different shots when establishing the location such as wide angles, over shoulder shot but still being able to see the location using a long shot view etc. Thus after watching this, it was decided to change the layout and shot variations.
New layout of shots & shot types
  1. Extreme wide angle of flat/blocks
  2. Extreme wide angle of flat/blocks but a different view
  3. Wide angle of flat/blocks with depth of frame
  4. Wide angle extreme long shot of flats (filling up the frame)
  5. Wide angle with depth of frame (behind Terrell)
  6. Over the shoulder shot of Terrell looking at his friend in extreme long shot
  7. Medium long shot - Terrell's friend waiting and gets out his phone
  8. High angle over the shoulder shot texting Terrell
  9. Close up of Terrell's friend's phone and what he's writing
  10. Low angle point of view shot (from where Terrell's friend is standing) of Terrell on balcony
  11. Tracking forwards shot of Terrell walking along the balcony towards the stairwell
  12. Tracking backwards mid-shot of Terrell walking towards the stairwell
  13. Terrell walks to stairwell (stopping at the top of the camera movement and we see Terrell walking down the stairs from top flight of stairs - 5th floor)
  14. Low angle shot of Terrell walking down stairs onto the next floor ( 3rd floor)
  15. Terrell walking down the stairs of 2nd floor to the 1st floor
  16. High angle long shot of Terrell walking towards and out of the door - most likely a tracking shot
  17. Medium long shot of Terrell walking out of door (camera is outside this time)
  18. Tracking mid shot walking with Terrell walking as he makes his way over to his friend
  19. High angle long shot from the balcony of Terrell walking towards his friend
  20. Different shots of Terrell walking towards his friend
  •  Terrell walking towards his friend a couple of times, each time from a different angle
  • In front, camera tracking backwards (filming right up to Terrell & his friend spudding)
  • From behind, camera behind Terrell walking forwards (filming right up to Terrell & his friend spudding)
  • From the side, camera tracking Terrell walking in a medium close up (just above waist upwards)
21.  Terrell walking towards his friend from his friend’s POV
  • Camera filming Terrell  walking towards his friend from his friend’s POV  where we saw him texting Terrell in previous shot
  • Giving four different shots (three of Terrell and one POV of his friend) about to meet up which will be have a cross between the shots until Terrell and his friend meet
22.  Shots to show Terrell and his friend spudding
  • 1. Camera positioned at the side of Terrell and friend in medium close up to show them spudding and then bringing arms away
  • 2. Camera positioned at birds eye view spudding from just above their hands of their fists coming together
23. Tracking two shot of the two walking out the location (can alternate from backwards and forwards)
24. New location is now established ( East Street Market) using different types of shots
  • Over the shoulder (behind Terrell’s shoulder)
  • Profile close up (on Terrell’s side)
  • Walking towards camera – in long shot (remaining on Terrell’s side)
  • Walking in front of camera in mid shot (do whole length of market if possible or quite a bit of it)
  •  Place camera at the front of the market to see the sign from across the road with camera on tripod. We see them walk out of the market, turn to their right and walk out of frame**
  • ** Possibility: Some shots of colourful market stalls to help use as cut away's e.g. butchers, jewellery stalls, hair stalls **
25. New location - Elephant & Castle tube station
  • Medium long shot of the tube station establishing the new location
  • Camera titled a little and we see Terrell and his friend walking into the tube station (camera at pavement view) watch them go out of frame.
  • Then there's a fade.
