rough cut evaluation

I strongly believe my groups rough cut is in the order we hope it to be in and that i beleive is the most important thing.
l we got all the shots we needed in our final rough cut. looking at are shots , i believe we have included some very good ones , for example when we did a close up of the main character (NOAH~) this will hopefully introduce the character.
this is the close up shot of te that he character

different shots sets different things for example we set our scenery by doing a long shot of the location were the majority of the events in the title sequence will happen.

Lastly, there is not much sound in our rough cut because after all it is not the final video, we hope to introduce sound effects/music at later time

PRODUCTION: Task 46 - Missing shots

Missing shots
1. Shot 1&2 - they are production idents
2. Shot 6 - Terrell was supposed to be in the flat thinking very hard and we see the location over his shoulder
3. Shot 12 - Panning of Terrell , we needed a chair to spin him around to get this shot but we are still unsure if this should be added
4. Shot 16 - Terrell stops on a wall gasping for air and looks in a direction (camera is shooting this from a side and low angle)
5. Shot 18 - Terrell falls to the floor and there's a close up of his face and the title appears again next to his head.

PRODUCTION: Task 46 - Day 3

On Friday 4th December , we will shoot the majority of the title sequence shots which will be located in Downshill Park and Lordship Recreation Ground in Tottenham. We used our media lesson of 3hours to shoot these scenes. We also revisted Tottenham Hale to shoot some scenes.

The shots that were completed today were:
1. Shot 7 - Terrell looking down from flats ( we didn't not have access to flats so we did an alternative angle to make it look similar)
2. Shot 8 - The ground (this is where the title of the title sequence will appear)
3. Shot 14 - Close up of Terrell running out of breath using a fig rig
4. Shot 15 - Terrell stops and gasps for air
5. Shot 17 - Terrell runs and but staggers and holds his chest

(The evidence of these shots can be found on our Instagram page called : Candimediagroup31)

PRODUCTION: Task 46 - Day 2

On Wednesday 2nd December , we will be shooting our park scenes which are shown in the storyboard. We decided to shoot this shots in Downhills Park in Tottenham as the location has a beautiful landscape and it's great for filming. It was also convenient for majority of us as we live in north London.

The shots that were completed today were:
1. Shot 9 - Terrell walking through the park
2. Shot 10 - Terrell sitting on the bench thinking really hard
3. Shot 11 - Terrell staring into the camera with bewilderment

RESEARCH ANALYSING TITLE SEQUENCE FROM CHOSEN GENRE

Our group has chosen to do drama as our genre for our title sequence. below i will be analysing three different movies title sequences with the same genre type (Drama). The three films i have decided on are The godfather, The forest Gump and Slumdog millionaire.

The Godfather

The Godfather title sequence from Luiza Santos on Vimeo.

Macro elements

  • Storyline - Based around a powerful Italian-American crime family of Don Vito Corleone. The youngest son joins the Mafia and becomes highly involved in violence and betrayal. The son attempts to maintain a normal relationship with his wife Kay as he is drawn deeper into the family business.
  • Key themes : Power, Violence, Money
  • Characters (main) : Vito Corleone , Michael Corleone, Santino “Sonny” Corleone , Peter Clemenza, Tom Hagen, Kay Adams-Corleone, Frederico “Fredo” Corleone, Capt. McCluskey, Jack Woltz, Barzini, Sollozzo, Tessio, Connie, Carlo, Cuneo etc.

Micro elements

  • Use of camera - In the beginning of the film, there is a close up of a man explaining what happened to his daughter and his view on America. As he continues to explain, the shot now turns into a over shoulder shot from the person who the man is talking to; we are now exposed to another person in the scene assuming it was just the man explaining to the screen. We are now exposed to the scenery which is an office, this shot has become a medium shot.
  • Sound - We are presented with diegetic sound of the dialogue between the two men.
  • Mise-en-scene: We are presented with a blur of chairs and brown wooden furniture in what seems to be an office; as the dialogue continues to happen we get a closer picture of the location which is Don Corleone's office. The props such as telephone and a desk confirm that it is also an office
Order of titles
  • Ident of production company
  • Whom the orignal story was by
  • Whom the screenplay was by
  • Actor's names
  • The title of the film
 The Forrest Gump

Macro elements
  • Storyline - A man called Forrest Gump grew up being content and not disadvantaged due to his mum. He lives a restricted life even though he is a college football star. He goes off and fights in Vietnam and he inspires people with his childlike optimism. But the person he cares about the most is his childhood love Jenny who is difficult to save.
  • Key themes: Love, Destiny vs. Coincidence, Death
  • Characters: Forrest Gump, Mrs Gump, Young Forrest, Doctor, Young Elvis Presley,  Louise, Jenny, Elderly Woman, Barber , Nurse etc.
Micro elements
  • Use of camera - We see the location straight away. The camera follows a feather moving throughout the location until the feather reaches Forrest. The shots vary from medium, long and close up shots.
  • Sound - Non-diegetic sound is played, the music is graceful and smooth which correlates with the movement of the feather and sets the tone for the film.
  • Mise-en-scene - We are set from a high angle of the feather floating in the air near the top of a church which proceeds to the bottom of the church. The feather then proceeds into a busy road where we see a pedestrian and a car , subsequently the feather passes low on the floor but lands on Forrest's foot and we see him picking up this feather and putting it in his briefcase. The movement of the feather in the air to the landing on Forrest's foot shows the significance of the feather and was almost heaven sent; as it passed many things but decided to finish its journey on Forrest's foot.
Order of titles

  • Ident of film company
  • Ident of production company
  • Director's name

Slumdog millionaire title sequence

Macro elements
  • Storyline - An 18 year old Jamal Malik goes on the Indian version of "Who wants to be a millionaire?" and has a flashback on how he got to this point. When Jamal was young, his mother died and him and his brother Salim survived on the streets of Mumbai. Salim turns to crime to solve his problems while Jamal finds small jobs until he lands on the game show.
  • Key themes: Money, violence, time and love.
  • Characters: Jamal, Salim, Latika, Sergeant Srinivas, Prem, Police Inspector, Jamal's mother etc.
Micro elements
  • Use of camera - The camera shots vary as they show the different stages of Jamal's life. Majority of the shots are medium long and long shots. There are a few extreme and close up shots to show the intensity and the feelings of the shots. The title sequence works from the present to the past to show his life experiences.
  • Sound - The sound used is diegetic as we hear people calling Jamal's name and Jamal on the game show conversing with the man. We hear screams and cheers as Jamal answers the questions correctly.
  • Mise-en-scene - The settings move from the game show, to the slums of India where Jamal grew up. This scenes are effective to showing us how Jamal made it from nothing and worked hard to be where he is. The settings dont follow chronological order as we have to work our way backwards.
Order of titles
  • Ident of film company
  • Director's names
  • Whom the screenplay was by
  • Whom the novel was by
  • Actor's names

very short individual evaluation of my performance in pitch.

I believe i  contributed to my pitch effectively, when it was my turn to speak i was clear and confident. Furthermore i believe the audience could understand what i was presenting and from my feedback i felt the may have implemented some of my ideas in their own title sequence.

EVEN BETTER IF-

  • I contributed more towards my groups presentation
  • if the quality of my presentations was attractive
  • i took on the role of answering questions

PLANNING: Task 39 - Update on title sequence

We have come to a realisation after consulting with our teacher. We have decided to change the layout and shots of our title sequence as the aim of this coursework is to produce a title sequence - we are aiming to do a discrete title instead of a narrative but in the initial idea it felt like we was telling the whole story without considering what the audience are going to see in the rest of the film since everything was shown in the title sequence.

Layout of credits & shots in the storyboard
1. The production ident is shown
2. The distributors name
3. Film company name
4. First shot appears which will be of Tottenham Hale station - this is to establish the location ( this may be medium or wide shot)
5. The skyline is focused on from a long shot for some time.
7. A block of flats are shown from a wide shot or long shot which establishes where Terrell lives.
8. Close up from the back of Terrell on the balcony (long shot) and we see what he's doing (thinking really hard - he might light a cigarette to stimulate his ideas) - We still see the locations while doing this shot
9. Terrell looks down the balcony of the flats ( side medium shot)
10. Close up of the floor and title appears Terrell
11. Terrell is walking in the park ( long shot to medium shot) - title credit of actors name appears on the right hand side (Benjamin Harris)
12. Terrell sits on a bench still thinking hard (wide/medium shot) ( costume and makeup by title credit appears)
13. This shot moves into a close up and Terrell just stares at the camera.
14. Panning shot of terrell's face in the close up using a fig rig, ( music by title credit appears)
(Jumpcut shots below 15-18)
15. Terrell gets up and starts running through corners (start videoing from the back as a long shot then transition into a side view then a running forward view ) - edited by title credit appears
16. Close up using fig rig to film him running and getting out of breath - production designer title appears
17. Terrell stops, (side view which then transitions into a front shot) - written by title credit appears
18. Medium or long shot of Terrell resting on a wall, breathing hard trying to get his breath back but still breaking really hard (directed by:)
20. Terrell still co tunes to run regardless holding his chest heard
21. Terrell falls to the floor and while he lays on the floor the title of the title sequence repeats next to his face.

institutional detail. NOAH

as a group we have decided to do an independent production rather than a mainstream one, the production will be called 'Noah Ark'. We have come to this decision for several reasons one of the main reasons being that it gives us our own chance to make the title sequence feel more realistic and more clear to the audience that it is unique and made specifically by us.

There are a few mainstream productions that are similar to ours, one of them being new line cinema and another being paramount. These are two well established mainstream productions that have produced several drama films.

THESE ARE SCREEN SHOTS FROM YOUGOV.ORG.UK on the profile of the film "ATTACK THE BLOCK"

As you may see looking at both the profiles, they have quiet a few things in common, a reason for this is that the genre of the film is similar.  Moreover from this i can make audience profile, the film/title sequence  what me and my group is making is similar to the films above, so therefore the profile of my audience will be similar to the two above. e.g looking at the top regions of both profiles it both consists of London, so most likely my top region would consist of London.

PLANNING: pitch task 3 rasta fari

what genre or sub-genre of film is it?
The genre that me and my group have decided to do for out title sequence is drama. we have decided to do the genre drama because Drama movies plan to attract the gathering of spectators and place them into the world of the film, A drama film is regularly viewed as the inverse of a comic drama, however might likewise be viewed as partitioned from different works of some expansive classification, for example, a dream. Also we believe drama could be very exiting as there is a lot of twist and turns when doing the genre drama, we believe in this day and age piratically every film consists of drama elements.

Problems we may face when doing the genre drama for our title sequence.

  1. when doing drama there has to be a turn in something normally this will introduce itself throughout the film, however a title sequence isn't that long therefore we will have to try implement dramatic elements in out title sequence so it its easy to see the genre of it.
  2. Actors may get carried away therefore we as group need to stress the importance of their role
  3. fonts used in our title sequence has to someway link with the plot of the movie e.g dramatic writing

The title sequence below is similar to the title sequence we will be producing.

  • The characters we are going to use is the same -a boy and a girl.
  • the fonts used in this title sequence is very straight this could be a sign of drama
  • we also introduce the element love

PLANNING: Pitch Task 7 - Deborah

Props
  • We intended to use a heavy long bag to put the gun and medicine. (There will not be actual gun but we hear non-diegetic sounds of bullets in the title sequence)
  • For the party scene, we will be needing balloons, party accessories etc. This will make our party scene look more realistic, however we've taken shot angles and noise levels into consideration. We will assure that the noise pollution and guests will not disrupt our shooting scenes.
  • Fake drugs which will be represented as suicidal pills in the the title sequence. We have taken all dangers of the "fake"pills, the pills will be normal paracetamol pills.
  • There will be batteries to represent the bullets instead of getting real bullets because that would be dangerous and harmful to our environment and going against the criteria of shooting.
Costumes
  • Terrell: Normal, casual clothing e.g. tracksuit (what a typical 17 year old boy would wear)
  • Hayley: Bomber jacket, hoody , black jeans and trainers with lovely makeup.

PLANNING: Pitch Task 2 - Deborah

Brief description of the type of title sequence we are doing

  • We have decided to use a discrete title sequence to inform the audience of what's going to happen in the title sequence. This will be showed in brief detail as we are not trying to give away everything. The title sequences that have inspired us was: Kidulthood and Murdered by my boyfriend. Many of the shots that you will see in this title sequence would've been seen in these films.
  • Although, Murdered by my boyfriend is a documentary but its concepts still intertwine with drama's conventions. There is a particular scene where the main character is seen almost losing his mind which I saw in the murdered by my boyfriend documentary which inspired me. The reason why that scene stood out for me because the extreme close up showed the boyfriend's insanity and emotions - I could almost feel him losing his power and control. Therefore, I believe adding this type of shot to our title sequence would be very intriguing for the audience to watch as they will begin to engage a lot more.
  • As seen in our previous blogs, we have listed the drama conventions. We will mostly stick to the conventions of Drama but we may just add a little of our unique touch to make our title sequence even better!

PLANNING: Pitch Task 1 - Deborah

Final Ideas

Title of the film:
  • Terrell

Plot:

  • Terrell, an average 17 year old was a really reserved guy. He rarely went out unless his best friend told him to follow him to parties, he was a lot more focused on being successful in his future. He wasn't like the other boys who were interested in girls and making money, he just wanted to be successful in the future. One thing that is a hinderance in his life is that he suffers from a mental illness which affects his mental and physical abilities. His best friend is affiliated with the wrong type of people for Terrell especially in the parties he attends. In one of these parties, he meets a girl called Hayley who has strong interests in him, as he opens up to her about his mental illness she wants to help him find a way to get a way to get rid of it.
  •  A* student Terrell receives a lot of peer, social and family pressure to do a lot of things but his number one priority is to get rid of his illness. He looks up on the internet how to get rid of his illness and he sees that the medicine he has to get has to be transported in a heavy black bag. When he opens it, he sees two objects... the medicine and a gun. Both will end his life and save him from the misery of the mental illness. The gun will be  fast and easy death but the medicine will be painful yet a slow death, which will should he choose?

What will be shown in the title sequence?

  • Terrell in the beginning with his hands on his head and there is an extreme close up of him thinking really hard.
  • While this occurs, we add non-diegetic sound to this scene using a heartbeat sound to build intensity of Terrell's character.
  •  Straight after this, we show a shot of Terrell walking in the park trying to figure out what to do with his mental illness and he meets Hayley. He opens up to Hayley about his mental illness and she feels very sorry for him and wants to help him.
  •  The next shot, the camera is focused on the floor from a low angle, a heavy bag is dropped creating a loud noise as it touches the floor.
  • Medium shot or close up of the bag for about 5 seconds, then we have a transition from this angle to a high angle of Terrell opening the bag revealing whats inside. (suicidal pills and a gun)
  • Terrell picks both the objects in astonishment and looks at the camera (long shot) thinking what to do, in the background Hayley's voice will be added saying "I can help you."
  • The screen goes black for 5 seconds and we hear bullets being fired, confusing the audience to think Terrell shot himself.
  • The screen remains black for another 10 seconds, then from a high angle in a toilet or very closed narrow room we see Terrell's lifeless body laying on the floor. The high angle shot moves into a medium shot then eventually to an close up while the focus still remains on the body. (transition from a high angle to an extreme close up)
  • In the extreme close up shot, we see drool running down his mouth and next to him we see the suicidal pills next to head which confirms he took the pills instead of being shot. We move the camera swiftly, to see a death letter which seems to have been written by Terrell for Hayley - camera focuses on that for 5 seconds.
  • Suddenly, Hayley comes into the closed room and sees Terrell's body laying there , she kneels down and bursts into tears.

anaylysis of sound in student previous title sequences

This title sequence is my favorite of 3 i had to pick from, simply because there isn't  a lot sounds but the sounds what is used is very effective, i believe this was done on purpose.

Throughout the title sequence you get this sense of nothingness, when you hear the birds tweeting in the title sequence it brings out the sense of nothingness because if you are able to hear birds tweeting the loudest it suggest that there is no other life form there. Furthermore there is sound which is played for the majority of the title sequence i believe this creates tension because the audience may not know where the sound is coming from and there is no object/image showing where  the sound is coming from.
The part of title sequence i like the most is when the little girl is under the table. The sound team made the girl huffing puffing sound  loud, this was effective because the previous sounds where quiet this will then allow the audience to be engaged in film opening, furthermore it shows how scared the character is. This well then bring out the genre of the title sequence which i believe was horror.Lastly the shot at the end used sound very well there was loud sound as the girl got dragged away then the sound just faded away this then developed the idea that the film is going to be a horror.

Blog Health check

What went well

- Lots of detail in majority of the blogs
- Most of the blogs have been completed
- ICT presentations have been used in some blogs

Even better if

- Made sure I created time e.g. Going workshops to complete incompleted/missing blogs
- Made detail consistent in all of my blogs
- If extension tasks were set , I should make the effort to attempt them as they could boost up my marks resulting to a high grade.

PLANNING: Task 29 (Part B)

We are going to use each sound to convey our drama concepts and may use these sounds in our production for title sequence. The reloading of bullets symbolises a death using a gun which can also create suspense for the audience as well as dramatic irony. This brings drama and crime together so it merges two genres together to attract a wider target audience. The zipping of the bag builds tension as the audience doesn't know what is in the bag and why this bag is vital in this particular scene. Finally, the writing of the letter could indicate a suicidal note , from this the audience gets a deeper understanding of the person's intentions and why they are taking away their life.

PLANNING: Task 29 (Part A)

 Idea - Genre: Drama

  • A man waits in a room with the clock ticking ,later on another man walks in and opens the door and closes it. They both start to argue, subsequently the man who walked in slaps a glass cup off the desk onto the floor.

  2. i have got a hang of prezi and emaze

EVEN BETTER IF-
  1. I complete a bit more posts]
  2. I start to put my post in a order (rearrange dates0
  3. in some post include more detail
  4. do the optional posts

PLANNING: Task 24

The genre we have decided to do is DRAMA
Dramatization movies mean to draw in the gathering of people and put them into the diegesis of the world within the film, controlling them into overlooking that they are watching a film. This is accomplished by upholding authenticity; this is done through the story and stylistics.

PLOT IDEA

Chris Russell has the perfect life working as a housekeeper in the city and laughing with his brave boyfriend, Cuthbert Jones.
However, when he finds a peculiar newspaper in his cellar, he begins to realise that things are not quite as they seem in the Russell family.
A rave leaves Chris with some startling questions about his past, and he sets off to crowded Philadelphia to find some answers.
At first the people of Philadelphia are generous and thoughtful. He is intrigued by the curiously stable nurse, Cuthbert McCallister. However, after he introduces him to hard alcohol, Chris slowly finds himself drawn into a web of jealousy, adultery and perhaps, even violence

At the focal point of a drama film is typically a character or characters who are in strife at a critical minute in their lives. They frequently rotate around families; motion pictures like Ordinary People burrow under the skin of regular life to ask central issues and touch on the most profound feelings of typical individuals.

Blog 24 individual idea-PLANNING

my idea of my groups title sequence

The genre i will create for my groups title sequence will be ACTION.Many people may ask why the genre action? my reply will always be the same firstly because the genre action is the most exciting genre  and the best films in this day and age genre is action or contains elements of action.Firstly my film will be about a man who is on the look for his daughter who has been kidnapped.                therefore in my title sequence i will need to introduce   the father and daughter and show their relationship or i may get straight to the action showing scenes of the father looking for his daughter.

my ideas.
  • the father has to come cross as determined
  • the kidnapper has to come across as witty
  • the daughter has to come across as scared
  • May title sequence may contains scenes of fights due to the fact the genre is action or may include car chases
  • I may add sound effects witch is effective
  • i may add music  witch come under the them of action
  • my social group may consists of religious believers- maybe the kidnapper is from a different religion to the to the daughter and father
the plot of my film will be something like 'Along came the spider' .
